Es mérito importante de este libro el resituar para el profesor, el alumno o el aficionado a la filosofía tanto las raíces como los conceptos básicos de esta materia, es decir, las razones y los elementos que dan cuerpo a la actividad filosófica, partiendo del aserto capital de que «la filosofía tiene su origen en la experiencia de la vida y busca pensarla». Así, a lo largo de todo el volumen es clara la voluntad de plantear la filosofía como experiencia y no como conocimiento.
