El 5 de marzo de 1939, al caer la noche, el coronel Segismundo Casado lideró un golpe de Estado contra el gobierno que presidía Juan Negrín. Se trataba de una acción coordinada en el territorio controlado por la República. El plan fue urdido durante meses.
